Whether they have signed on the dotted line this summer, or have been brought through the youth setup, the Premier League has got some of the world’s best young talent in its ranks. Here at TIBS News we thought we would have a look at who we believe could be the top ten youngsters to look out for this season.
10 – Guillermo Varela
Manchester United’s first summer signing was this U20 Uruguayan international from his hometown club Penarol. Although only ever making one appearance for the side, he impressed at the U20 championships. The Red Devils then offered him a trial and two weeks he later signed.
9 – Marc Muniesa
After being a successful product of Barcelona’s famous La Masia youth setup, Muniesa was released on a free transfer in the summer. He was coveted by many top clubs but opted to choose Stoke as his next destination with playing time on his mind. He is defender who enjoys an expansive passing game, with comparisons to David Luiz’s style.
8 – Yaya Sanogo
Arsenal’s first and only signing of the summer has been French U21 star and former Auxerre forward Yaya Sanogo. The 20 year old played 24 games and scored 11 times in the three years he was at the Ligue 2 side and has been compared to a young Thierry Henry.
7 – Jesse Lingard
A product of the Manchester United youth setup, Lingard is an English midfielder who has impressed so far in the 2013/14 pre-season tour of Asia returning as top scorer. He was loaned out last season to Leicester City but after playing well in pre-season, is expected to be part of David Moyes’ plans.
6- Jordan Ibe
Former Wycombe Wanderers player Ibe is a pacey midfielder who now plays for Liverpool. Although signing over a year ago, Ibe hasn’t seen much of the Premier League and has only made one appearance towards the end of last season. Yet Brendan Rogers faith in youngsters could see the 18 year old gain a more starts this campaign.
5 – Luis Alberto
Yet another Spanish starlet, who learned his trade at Sevilla, was last season loaned out to Barcelona B where he did well scoring 11 in 36 games for a winger. He now plays for Liverpool and could use the fact they have little strength out wide to his advantage, in order to try gain a spot in the national side for next year’s World Cup.
4- Nathaniel Chalobah
Started his career at Chelsea and loaned out to Watford last season where he almost helped gain them promotion, playing a key role in defensive midfield. Chalobah has returned to his parent club and is looking to impress Jose Mourinho. The young Englishman is currently U19 captain at international level and has a bright future ahead of him.
3 – Gerard Deulofeu
Loaned from Barcelona to Everton, Deulofeu has been touted as the next wonder kid to surface from the La Masia academy. He has pace, skill and although they may not prefer it, has a similar playing style to Cristiano Ronaldo. He was also involved in Spain’s U20 squad in the European Championships where he won player of the tournament. Everton could have a real star on their hands this season.
2 – Wilfried Zaha
Bought last year by Manchester United but loaned out for the rest of the season to his former club Crystal Palace. Wilfried Zaha was pivotal in helping his side gain promotion stepping up on the big occasion scoring twice in the playoff semi-final against Brighton and then in the final winning the penalty that took the Eagles up. Zaha is tipped to be a future England star and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he was on the flight to Rio next year.
1 – Kevin De Bruyne
Although at the age of 22 and the oldest in the list, De Bruyne is simply the best young talent to watch out for this year in the league. Signing for Chelsea last year in the January transfer window, the Belgian has not featured for the Blues as he was loaned out to Werder Bremen in the 2012/13 season, where he impressed scoring 10 in 32 for a midfielder. He has since returned to Stamford Bridge where in pre-season he has been key for Mourinho and Chelsea. Looking like the finished article already, De Bruyne is certainly one to keep an eye on.
