Wayne Rooney could quite possible have cost Chelsea this season’s Premier League title.

His decision to stay at Manchester United was a huge blow to Jose Mourinho’s team plans.
And if the Blues don’t win the championship I believe it was because they didn’t sign a 20-goal-a-season centre forward.
If you put Robin van Persie in this Chelsea side they would be favourites to win the title by a street.
I tipped Chelsea to win the championship at the start of the season, but now they are one striker short of being a world-class side.
They needed a real marquee centre-forward signing and hard as they tried to get Rooney they lost out and look at the way he’s playing for United now?
Mourinho later went out and signed Samuel Eto’o, who three or four years ago, would have been that kind big-name signing.
But at the moment the jury is still out whether he can score goals on a regular basis in the Premier League.
I’m still surprised that they allowed Romelu Lukaku, with the potential he’s got, to go out on loan again to Everton after what he did at West Brom last season.
And it is strange that Fernando Torres still can’t seem to do it at Premier League level when in Europe he looks a totally different player.
He hasn’t really looked like he’s fitted in at Chelsea since his £50 million move from Liverpool and maybe he needs a fresh start at another club.
London clubs appear to have the upper-hand at the moment in the Premier League with Arsenal top, Spurs third and Chelsea fourth.
The Gunners have done remarkably well when you consider a few short weeks ago all sorts of statements were being made about their manager Arsene Wenger.
People were panicking about Arsenal’s future but now look where they are after one £42 million signing?
Play-maker Mesut Ozil is obviously a top drawer player but again, similar to Chelsea, I think they are just a little short in the centre-forward department to challenge on all fronts.
Spurs are probably strongest in that department now with new signing Roberto Soldado, Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor.
Soldado has made an impressive start in north London, whereas Defoe has been champing at the bit sitting on the bench – although he always seems to get amongst the goals when he gets a chance.
Adebayor is not a bad player and is almost unplayable when his head is in the right place.
Tottenham have a big, strong squad now and it’s going to be down to good man-management to keep everyone happy there.
This is going to be one of the most wide-open battles to win the championship which is good for the game and the Premier League.
I don’t want the Premier League to be labelled the same as Scottish football was down the years with the title a toss-up between the same two clubs every year.
I am really excited about this season’s title race and do believe there are five or six teams who are capable of pulling it off.
