Xisco Munoz sacked as Watford manager after just 10 months in charge at Vicarage Road

Xisco Munoz has been sacked as Watford manager just 10 months into the role and seven games into the Premier League season, having won promotion last term.

The Hornets announced the Spaniard’s departure on Sunday morning following their 1-0 defeat at Leeds United on Saturday.

The 41-year-old’s departure comes as somewhat of a surprise considering the club are 14th in Premier League with seven points from seven games.

‘The board feels recent performances strongly indicate a negative trend at a time when team cohesion should be visibly improving,’ Watford said in a statement.

‘The Hornets will always be grateful to Xisco for the part he played in securing last season’s promotion and wish him well for his future career in football.

‘No further club comment will be available until the imminent announcement of a new head coach.’

Munoz’s exit, who is the first Premier League manager to be sacked this season, means the Vicarage Road outfit have now had five managers in two years.
