The quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup were played this week, as Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham and Brentford all advanced to the semi-finals.

Pep Guardiola’s side faced off against a struggling Arsenal, with a dominant second half ensuring they won 4-1 and progressed to their fourth consecutive Carabao Cup semi-final.

Gabriel Jesus put City ahead after just three minutes, but a well worked goal finished off by Alexandre Lacazette meant the score was 1-1 at half-time.

The Gunners were not level for long, and a shocking error from goalkeeper Alex Runarsson saw Riyad Mahrez’s free-kick creep into the back of the net.

Follow up strikes from Phil Foden and Aymeric Laporte sealed City’s progression to the next round, while leaving Arsenal struggling yet again.

United also made it to the semi-finals, keeping up their impressive away record by beating Everton 2-0.

The Red Devils left it late, with goals from Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial in the dying stages undoing all of Everton’s solid defensive work.

Following their victories, the two Manchester clubs will face off against each other in the next round as they look to book their spot in the final.

Spurs also won their game, beating Stoke 3-1 as they cruised through to the next round.

Gareth Bale scored the north London side’s first after just 20 minutes, before Jordan Thompson equalised for the Championship club.

Their joy didn’t last long though, as a fine Ben Davies strike followed by a textbook Harry Kane finish saw Spurs advance to the semi-finals.

They will play a Championship club again, this time against Brentford who defeated Newcastle 1-0 in their encounter to make it to their first-ever major semi-final.

Josh Dasilva netted the only goal of the game as the London side impressed against their Premier League opponents.

The semi-finals will take place the week commencing January 4th, with all four sides looking to make it into the final later in the season.
