Jamie Vardy made history by becoming the oldest player in Premier League history to win the Golden Boot.

The Leicester City striker finished as the league’s top goalscorer this season with 23 goals in 35 appearances.

Vardy achieved the feat at the age of 33, surpassing the previous record which was set by Didier Drogba who finished as the Premier League’s top marksman with 29 goals in 2009-10 at the age of 32.

‘It’s a wonderful individual achievement,’ Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers said on Sunday following their 2-0 home defeat by Manchester United on the final day of the 2019-20 Premier League season.

‘We wouldn’t be where we are without his quality and goals.

‘He’s a joy to work with, has a great mentality and has such quality. It’s a huge accolade and we’re all delighted for him.’

Leicester’s No 9 finished one goal ahead of Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Southampton forward Danny Ings. Aubameyang won the award last season alongside Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane – with all three scoring 22 goals.

Raheem Sterling finished fourth with 20 goals for Manchester City this season, while rounded out the top five with 19 goals. As well as last season Salah had won the Golden Boot in 2017-18 too.
