David Alaba ‘wanted by Manchester City as they consider transfer bid for Bayern Munich star’

Football

Manchester City are pondering a move for Bayern Munich defender David Alaba as they plot to wrestle the Premimer League title from Liverpool next season.

City manager Pep Guardiola is keen to strengthen his squad after seeing Liverpool dominate the top flight this campaign.

And according to the Mirror, Guardiola has earmarked Alaba as someone who will bolster their defensive ranks.

The 28-year-old is regarded as one of the best left backs in Europe but only has one year on his current deal at Bayern and the German giants are open to selling him this summer if he doesn’t agree terms to a new deal.

Alaba’s future has alerted many top clubs with City facing competition from the likes of Inter Milan for the Austria international.

City currently have injury-prone Benjamin Mendy and the makeshift Oleksandr Zinchenko as their left-back options.

As well as left back, Alaba can also play at centre back or in central midfield.

Guardiola knows about Alaba’s abilities well having managed him at Bayern where they won seven major honours in three seasons (2013-16) including three Bundesliga titles and two German Cups.
