Cristiano Ronaldo has become the all-time top scorer in football history after scoring, his 760th career goal, in Juventus’s Italian Super Cup win against Napoli.
He went into the game only needing one goal to surpass previous record holder, Josef Bican, who scored 759 goals in his career between 1931 and 1955.
At the start of this year, the Portuguese captain over-took Brazilian legend Pele’s record of scoring 757 official goals.
This accolade will surely rank as one of the greatest achievements in his career as he finally officially becomes the top goal scorer in football history.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s best season came in 2011/12 when he scored an incredible 69 times for Real Madrid in all competitions.
Ronaldo’s record-breaking goal came in the 64th minute. CR7 hit the ball on the half-volley after Federico Bernardeschi’s out-swinging corner was flicked on at the front post by a defending Napoli player.
The goal was enough to help the Old Lady claim another Italian Super cup – a record eighth after a 2-0 win over Napoli
Ronaldo signed for the Italian champions in 2018 where he has continued to add to his forever growing trophy cabinet winning two Serie A titles and one Italian Super Cup.
The 35-year-old will be hoping to add the Coppa Italia to that list as well as hoping the Old Lady can finally get their hands back on the Champions League.
Winning Europe’s most sought-after trophy is the primary reason the Italian giants signed the Portuguese star.
A breakdown of Ronaldo’s goals in all competitions:
Sporting Lisbon – 5
Manchester United – 118
Real Madrid – 450
Juventus – 85
Portugal – 102
Ronaldo’s stats are incredible – on average he scores 40 goals per season and has scored in 22 different competitions during his career for club and country.
He has also scored an amazing 46 career hat-tricks!
There is no doubt he is a legend!
