San Diego Padres superstar Fernando Tatis Jr. is suspended for 80 games after testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs.

An investigation into Tatis concluded that the shortstop used Clostebol, a PED that violates Major League Baseball’s joint drug prevention and treatment program.

With 48 regular season games left for the Padres, the suspension immediately ends Tatis’ 2022 season and will carry over to the beginning of the 2023 season next April.

At the time of the suspension, the 23-year-old was on a rehab assignment after missing four months of the season due to a broken wrist.

‘Devastated’ Fernando Tatis Jr. issues apology

In a statement released shortly after receiving the ban, he said: ‘I am completely devastated.

‘I want to apologise to the [team owner] Peter Seidler, [general manager] AJ Preller and the entire Padres organisation.

‘I have no excuse for my error, and I would never do anything to cheat or disrespect the game I love.’

GM AJ Preller said he was highly disappointed in his superstar and said the team hoped for some more maturity from him.
