Dave Chisnall produced a dazzling display of darts to whitewash world number one Michael van Gerwen 5-0 in last night’s PDC World Championship quarter-finals at Alexandra Palace.

The world No 8 averaged an impressive 107.34 and hit 14 180’s to cement a place in his first world semi-final.

This was Chisnall’s first win, over the three-time world champion, in 27 matches, going back to February 2016.

The 40-year-old’s stunning scoring saw him take out 141 and 95 to take the opening set as he went on to dominate.

In the fourth set, Chizzy produced eight perfect darts but narrowly missed out on an infamous nine-darter, missing double 12. However, he quickly returned to finish the leg and race away into a 4-0 lead over the stunned world champion.

On his way to victory, Chizzy hit 15/31 doubles and tallied up three 100-plus checkouts. Chisnall has never won a televised major, losing three-time to van Gerwen, and he will be hoping to defeat two-time world champion Gary Anderson in the semi-finals.

Anderson was in total command of his last-eight game, beating Dirk van Duijvenbode 5-1.

Having lost the first set of the match, the Scot rallied and won 14/17 legs, remaining on course for a third world championship.

‘The Aubergenius’ performed well but just could not match the ‘Flying Scotsmen’ as he steamrolled his way into the last four.

Elsewhere, Stephen Bunting fought off Krzysztof Ratajski earlier in the day and became the first player in the semi-finals.

‘The Bullet’ will face off against Gerwyn Price after the Welshmen defeated Daryl Gurney in a last-leg shootout to win 5-4.

This will be his second consecutive semi-finals. Price will be looking to win the trophy on Sunday and if he manages it he will become the new world number one.

Digging deep, Price came back from 2-0 down and roared his way through to setup a semi-final clash against Bunting.

The quarter-finals produced a constant flurry of magical moments, enthralling the viewers watching from home. With the quality of darts on show, the semi-finals are sure to be just as dramatic and thrilling.
