As has been the theme with the season so far, there were plenty of twists in the Premier League this weekend with Leeds United getting the better of Manchester City and Liverpool winning late against Aston Villa.
Stuart Dallas’ double downs Manchester City
Despite being reduced to 10 men, Leeds came out 2-1 winners at the Etihad following a brace from Northern Ireland international Stuart Dallas.
Liam Cooper was dismissed at 1-0 following a VAR review, with Ferran Torres equalising in the second half before Dallas netted in the 91st minute.
Elsewhere at the top of the Premier League
Manchester United took advantage of their rivals dropping points, closing the gap between them and City to 11 points after their 3-1 win at Tottenham.
Their opponents went ahead through Son Heung-min, but second-half goals from Fred, Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood saw United come from behind to win yet again.
Third-placed Leicester dropped points on the Red Devils after losing to fourth-placed West Ham.
Jesse Lingard starred again for the Hammers, scoring twice in the first half as they eventually came out 3-2 winners.
His goals were added to by Jarrod Bowen to make it 3-0 after 60 minutes, but a late brace from Kelechi Iheanacho made the contest far tighter than it should have been.
All those immediately following in the battle for a top-four spot also won, with Liverpool coming from behind to beat Aston Villa and Chelsea thrashing Crystal Palace.
An Ollie Watkins strike put Villa ahead, but second-half finishes from Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold saw the match finish 2-1 to Jurgen Klopp’s side.
In London, goals for Kai Havertz, Kurt Zouma and two for Christian Pulisic saw Chelsea ease past Crystal Palace with a 4-1 win.
Victory for the Blues saw them move within two points of Leicester in third place.
Outsiders for Champions League qualification, Everton, struggled in a 0-0 draw against Brighton as they dropped further from those above them.
Down at the bottom of the Premier League
Away from the battle for European football, Newcastle gave their survival hopes a huge boost thanks to a 2-1 win away at Burnley.
The Clarets went ahead through Matej Vydra, but an inspired Allan Saint-Maximin came on to assist Jacob Murphy and then score the winner in Lancashire.
Fellow relegation strugglers Fulham weren’t as fortunate, losing in the dying stages to Wolves on Friday night.
Adama Traore netted in the 92nd minute as the Cottagers were left six points adrift from safety.
West Brom continued their strong form with a 3-0 win over Southampton to move within just two points of Fulham in 18th place.
Strikes from Matheus Pereira, Matt Phillips and Callum Robinson secured all three points for Albion as they ever-so-slightly added to their great escape hopes.
Finally, Arsenal cruised past Sheffield United with a 3-0 win as the Blades moved closer to the Championship.
French forward Alexandre Lacazette scored his 49th and 50th Premier League career goals alongside a Gabriel Martinelli strike to hand the Gunners all three points.
