Vivianne Miedema has signed a new deal with Arsenal Women, ending months of speculation surrounding her future with the club.

Miedema’s contract was due to expire this summer and she had been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona throughout the season.

The Holland international joined Arsenal in 2017 from Bayern Munich and has scored an incredible 117 goals in 144 appearances for the Gunners.

She is the all-time top scorer in the WSL and topped the league’s scoring charts in both 2018-19 and 2019-20.

Miedema enjoyed success in her early years at Arsenal, helping the club to silverware with the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup in 2017-18 followed by the WSL title in 2018-19.

Arsenal narrowly missed out on silverware this season, with Chelsea winning the league by one point, in a title race that went down to the final day of the season.

The Dutch star is hoping to win more honours with the club and outlined her ambitions for the future.

Miedema told Arsenal.com: ‘I think the most beautiful thing about the game is building something with a team and with people around you that you really want to be around.

‘I do feel like I have got that at Arsenal. I feel like for me, winning titles with Arsenal will mean a lot more to me than winning them with another club at the moment. And that’s what I obviously hope to achieve with Arsenal.’

Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall added: ‘Viv is a stellar talent and a hugely important player for this team, so it’s fantastic news that she is staying with us.

‘As a club, our ambition is to win titles and compete at the highest level – we know Viv’s own ambitions are the same, and together we will give everything to achieve that.’
