Thomas Tuchel is expected to become the next England manager after concluding talks with the English FA over becoming the full-time successor to Gareth Southgate.

According to The Times, the 51-year-old German is set to be unveiled as the Three Lions this week – although the length of his contract is unknown.

He will become only the third non-Englishman to take charge of the men’s national football team after Swede Sven-Goran Eriksson (2001-2006) and Italian Fabio Capello (2008-2012).

The English FA have reportedly been trying to secure the services of Tuchel since last month – with by Mark Bullingham, the FA chief executive, and John McDermott, the technical director, leading those proceedings.

In hiring Tuchel, England will have a manager with a track record of success – with winning the Champions League as Chelsea manager in 2021 his crowning glory to date.
