The 2024-25 UEFA Champions League draw

The 2024-25 UEFA Champions League draw introduced an exciting new format.

Instead of the traditional group stage, the competition now features a single “league phase” where each of the 36 teams plays eight matches—four at home and four away—against different opponents.

Teams were seeded into four pots, with each team playing two teams from each pot.

Key matchups from the draw

  • Manchester City will face Inter Milan, Club Brugge, Feyenoord, and Sparta Prague at home, while they will travel to play PSG, Juventus, Sporting CP, and Slovan Bratislava.
  • Arsenal is set to play PSG, Shakhtar Donetsk, Dinamo Zagreb, and Monaco at home, and will travel to face Inter Milan, Atalanta, Sporting CP, and Girona.
  • Real Madrid will host Dortmund, AC Milan, Salzburg, and Stuttgart, while they will be away against Liverpool, Atalanta, Lille, and Brest.
  • Barcelona will play Bayern Munich, Atalanta, Young Boys, and Brest at home, and face Dortmund, Benfica, Red Star Belgrade, and Monaco away.
  • Liverpool: Real Madrid, RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen, AC Milan, Lille, PSV, Bologna, Girona.
  • Aston Villa: Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, Juventus, Club Brugge, Celtic, Young Boys, Bologna, Monaco

When it starts …

The league phase runs from September 17, 2024, to January 29, 2025, with matchdays spread across these months. The top eight teams will advance directly to the Round of 16, while the next 16 teams will compete in a knockout round to determine the remaining eight spots.

This new format is designed to provide more diverse matchups and increase the excitement of the competition.
