The Premier League returns this weekend after the first European games in midweek, with some big matches to look forward to that could cause major changes in the league table.

Table-toppers Manchester United could fall off of top spot when they play West Ham, with a win for the Hammers seeing them leapfrog Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

Both teams had varying success in the week, with United shockingly losing to BSC Young Boys while West Ham were victorious against Dinamo Zagreb.

Big meeting in London

Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur also have the chance to go to first in the league when they face off against each other on Sunday.

The Blues currently sit second, while Spurs are in seventh with just one point separating the two London clubs.

It’s a similar situation for Manchester City, Liverpool, Everton and Brighton who all have the chance to top the league with wins this weekend.

City host Southampton

City welcome Southampton to the Etihad stadium, following on from their emphatic 6-3 win over RB Leipzig in the week.

Notably, Pep Guardiola requested more fans to come to this weekend’s game, suggesting his side will need all the support they can get to overcome the Saints.

Liverpool also won during the week, coming from behind to beat AC Milan.

They return to domestic action with a home match against Crystal Palace, who picked up their first win of the season against Spurs last weekend.

Their Merseyside rivals Everton have gotten off to a good start under former Reds manager Rafa Benitez and can continue their fine form against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Villa themselves haven’t had the best of starts, only winning one game since the start of the season.

Brighton looking to continue on good form

Surprise package Brighton have impressed so far this campaign and are just one point off of top spot in the league table.

The Seagulls take on Leicester City and will be hoping that their opponents are still feeling the effects of their European encounter with Napoli on Thursday.

Elsewhere, Newcastle United take on Leeds United for Friday night football with both sides still looking for their first wins of the season.

Both Norwich and Burnley are also yet to win and have had disappointing starts to their respective campaigns.

The Canaries are in action on Saturday against fellow newly promoted side Watford, who managed to pick up a win against Villa on the opening day but have lost the three games since then.

For Burnley, they face an out of form Arsenal side who have also won just one game so far this season.

The Gunners scraped a 1-0 victory over Norwich last weekend and will need to be at their best to overcome Burnley on Saturday.

Finally, Wolves take on Brentford in the early kick off on Saturday looking to build on their first victory of the season last weekend against Watford.
