Sporting tore Manchester City apart in humbling 4-1 victory in the Champions League as departing head coach Ruben Amorim, who is Manchester United bound, outclassed Pep Guardiola and his side.

The Premier League champions were blown away in Portugal as their wasted opportunities were just as crippling as their woeful and sloppy defending.

This defeat makes it three loses in a row for Manchester City as Guardiola will be hoping not to break a personal record of ever losing four successive matches as a manager.

It is the first time that City have conceded four goals in a single game while rumbling with Europe’s elite since 2016.

They have entered uncharted territory as they normally cruise pass teams without a sweat but have been outplayed in each of their last three appearances.

In the first half, Sporting looked timid and lacked a punch but in the second half they came out swinging, looking for the knockout blow with each blistering attack.

Manchester City struggled with the intensity of their opponents, a carbon copy of their visit to the south coast at the weekend when Bournemouth defeated Guardiola’s side for the first time.

Amorim’s side played with a similar game style that saw Manchester United stun their noisy neighbours in last season’s FA Cup final, playing on the counterattack whilst being impact in defence.

Viktor Gyokeres outshines Erling Haaland

One player shone as Erling Haaland lingered in his shadow, the Swedish international Viktor Gyokeres bullied the blue half of Manchester’s back line as he scored a hattrick, which included two penalties.

The former Coventry City talisman continued his scorching hot scoring streak as he now has 66 goals in 67 games for the Portuguese side.

However, Erling Haaland’s prolific goalscoring touch fizzled away in the Lisbon autumnal night sky as the Norwegian had a night to forget.

The Golden Boot winner had a looping header hacked off the line before belting the cross bar from the penalty spot which saw the striker waste golden chances all game long.
