Another weekend of Serie A action didn’t disappoint at the top of the standings. TIBS News reviews what happened.

AC Milan top the table as Napoli and Inter draw

AC Milan have leapfrogged rivals Inter Milan and Napoli after the latter played out a 1-1 at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on Saturday.

Goals from Lorenzo Insigne and Edin Dzeko ensued the points were split between the two sides.

Napoli took the lead early from the penalty spot after Victor Osimhen was bought down in the box.  Italy international Insigne stepped up from 12 yards to calmly score his sixth goal of the season.

Despite dominating large parts of the game, the hosts couldn’t hold onto their lead and they were made to pay shortly after half-time when Edin Dzeko was able to capitalise on a wicked deflection to smash in from close range.

Napoli had a number of chances in the second half to regain their lead but Inter Milan goalkeeper Samir Handanovic was on top form to keep the score level.

Both sides move down one place after AC Milan’s 1-0 win at home to Sampdoria, courtesy of Rafael Leao’s eighth-minute strike.

It remains tight at the top though with just two points separating the three teams – AC Milan (55 points), Inter Milan (54 points) and Napoli (53 points).

Napoli face AC Milan in a few weeks’ time so could we see another twist in this unpredictable title race in Italy.

Juventus draw 1-1 at Atalanta thanks to a late Danilo header

From the title race to the battle for Champions League qualification…

On Sunday, Danilo savaged a 1-1 draw for Juventus at Atalanta to secure an important point in the battle for Champions League football.

Massimiliano Allegri`s side went behind after Ruslan Malinovskyi’s magnificent 30-yard strike put Atalanta ahead on 76 minutes.

Juve created a lot of chances throughout the game and their persistence paid off in the 92nd minute when Paulo Dybala’s corner was guided into the far corner by former Manchester City full back Danilo.

The draw leaves Juve fourth and extends their unbeaten run in the league to 11 games now.

Fifth-placed Atalanta will be disappointed to have conceded such a late goal although they remain just two points off fourth and with a game in hand too.
