It was a high scoring weekend in the Premier League, with six games seeing at least four goals scored, including the Manchester derby. TIBS News reviews the action.

Manchester is blue

Manchester City beat Manchester United 4-1 at the Etihad to maintain their hopes of another title under Pep Guardiola.

A brace each for Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez was enough for the league leaders, who dominated against a poor United side despite Jadon Sancho’s initial equaliser.

Liverpool kept the pace with their title rivals, just about beating West Ham 1-0 and remaining in second place.

The only goal of the game was netted by Sadio Mane, as the Reds held on to a priceless victory.

A flurry of second-half strikes for Chelsea saw them easily defeat Burnley 4-0, with the Blues remaining in third place after their win.

Kai Havertz was on hand to score twice while Reece James and Christian Pulisic also bagged for the Blues.

Arsenal are in pole position for fourth

Arsenal moved back into the top four after an impressive attacking display against Watford, winning 3-2 against the relegation-threatened Hornets.

Young talent Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli all chipped in with goals, with Cucho Hernandez and Moussa Sissoko netting for the home side, who remain in the bottom three.

Fellow north London side Tottenham also won, cruising past Everton with a 5-0 victory on Monday night.

A Michael Keane own goal was followed by two finishes from Harry Kane, as well as Son Heung-min and Sergio Reguilon as Antonio Conte’s team thrashed their opponents.

There was a shock loss for Wolves, who fell to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of mid-table side Crystal Palace.

First-half strikes from Jean-Philippe and Wilfred Zaha handed Palace all three points, denting Wolves’ European hopes in the process.

Down at the bottom of the Premier League

At the other end of the table, Brentford came out on top in a crucial match against Norwich in their battle to stay in the Premier League.

An Ivan Toney hat-trick lifted the Bees to their first win in 9 games, leaving their opponents sat at the bottom of the table.

Leeds failed to get off to a winning start under new manager Jesse Marsch, losing 1-0 to Leicester City.

Harvey Barnes scored the only goal of the game, handing Leeds the loss and leaving them just two points above the bottom three.

One team who are pulling away from the relegation battle are Newcastle, who won again last weekend.

They beat Brighton 2-1, with goals from Ryan Fraser and Fabian Schar scoring to help extend their unbeaten run to eight games.

Finally, Aston Villa ran riot against Southampton, winning 4-0 at Villa Park and up into 11th spot in the table.

Ollie Watkins, Douglas Luiz, Philippe Coutinho and Danny Ings all struck for Steven Gerrard’s side, condemning their opponents to just their second league defeat this year.
