Twitter/@premierleague

In the latest Premier League review just two points separate first and sixth place following this weekend’s action, with some major results between the sides in the top six.

Honours even at Anfield in modern-day classic

Manchester City and Liverpool played out the most entertaining match of the weekend, drawing 2-2 at Anfield in a fantastic encounter.

Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah netted for the Reds to help maintain their unbeaten record, but goals from Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne ensured the points were shared on Merseyside.

Chelsea the new Premier League leaders

The draw between City and Liverpool meant that Chelsea rose to the top of the table, beating Southampton 3-1.

Strikes from Trevoh Chalobah, Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell helped the Blues to victory, despite James Ward-Prowse first equalising – and then getting sent off – for the Saints.

Fellow title hopefuls Manchester United could only manage a draw against fifth-placed Everton, meaning the two sides remain level on points with only goal difference seeing United into fourth spot.

The Red Devils went ahead through Anthony Martial, but a second half goal from Andros Townsend, followed by his best impression of Cristiano Ronaldo’s celebration, meant both teams came away with a point.

The remaining side in the top six is Brighton, who held on to their spot in sixth following an uneventful 0-0 draw with Arsenal.

End of the road for Xisco Munoz at Watford

Despite managing seven points from their opening seven games, Watford sacked manager Xisco Munoz following a disappointing 1-0 loss to Leeds.

Spanish defender Diego Llorente scored early in the first half to see help his team to their first league win of the campaign.

Tottenham back to winning ways

Spurs also got their season back on track with a 2-1 win over Aston Villa seeing them move back into the top half.

Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg opened the scoring before Ollie Watkins equalised, only for a Matt Targett own goal put Spurs back into the lead.

Brentford were victorious in their London derby against West Ham, winning 2-1 thanks to a late Yoane Wissa finish.

Bryan Mbeumo netted the other goal for the Bees, while Jarrod Bowen initially equalised for the Hammers.

Norwich City finally register a point

Elsewhere, Norwich managed to pick up their first point of the season after a 0-0 draw against Burnley, although they still sit bottom of the league.

The Clarets also remain in the relegation zone, only above Newcastle United on goal difference.

The Magpies fell to defeat again, losing 2-1 to a revitalised Wolves side.

South Korean forward Kwang Hee-Chan scored a brace for Bruno Lage’s team, scoring either side of Jeff Hendrick’s initial equaliser.

Finally, Crystal Palace came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 against Leicester City.

Strike partnership Kelechi Iheanacho and Jamie Vardy both scored for the Foxes, but substitutes Michal Olise and Jeffrey Schlupp netted to make sure that Palace got something out of the game.
