Another weekend of games in the Premier League has passed by, with Manchester City dropping points while the rest of the top four picked up wins. TIBS News reviews the action.

Manchester City held at Crystal Palace

City could only manage a 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace, failing to convert their chances against the London club.

Second-placed Liverpool picked up a comfortable victory over Brighton, winning 2-0 at the Amex Stadium which saw them move within four points of first place.

Strikes from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah helped secure all three points for the Reds, who recorded their eighth league win in a row.

There were also victories for the other two sides occupying a Champions League spot, with Chelsea beating Newcastle 1-0 and Arsenal winning 2-0 against Leicester City.

Kai Havertz netted late on to ensure the Blues came away with all three points against an in-form Newcastle side, while Thomas Partey and Alexandre Lacazette were on hand to score for the Gunners in their win.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s hat-trick downs Tottenham

In the fight for a top-four spot too, Manchester United came out on top against Tottenham, winning 3-2 at Old Trafford.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick for United as they battled to a much needed win, despite a Harry Maguire own goal and Harry Kane scoring from the penalty spot.

West Ham also kept their hopes of European football alive with a victory against Aston Villa.

Ukrainian forward Andriy Yarmolenko scored in what will be looked back on as one of the moments of the season, with his strike being followed by a Pablo Fornals goal for the Hammers and a Jacob Ramsey consolation for Villa.

Down at the bottom of the table…

At the bottom end of the table, Leeds picked up a valuable 2-1 win over fellow relegation rivals Norwich.

A last minute winner from Joe Gelhardt saw the Yorkshire club take all three points despite Kenny McClean scoring late on for the Canaries.

Everton fell to another defeat, losing 1-0 at home to Wolves as fears of relegation continue to grow for the Toffees.

Conor Coady got on the scoresheet early in the second half, which was shortly followed by a red card for Jonjoe Kenny as Frank Lampard’s side slipped to their fourth successive league defeat.

There were also worrying signs for Burnley, who lost a crucial ‘six-pointer’ against Brentford.

The Bees won 2-0 thanks to a late brace from Ivan Toney as they moved eight points clear of the bottom three, while their opponents fell to 19th.

Finally, a 2-1 win for Watford saw them rise to 18th, now only in the relegation zone because of their goal difference.

They beat Southampton after two goals from Cucho Hernandez, with Mohamed Elyounoussi netting for the Saints.
