Liverpool earn Merseyside derby bragging rights
Liverpool were dominant in their Merseyside derby against Everton, winning 4-1 against their local rivals.
Mohamed Salah netted twice for the Reds, with Jordan Henderson and Diogo Jota scoring either side of the Egyptian’s brace as Jurgen Klopp’s side moved on to 31 points – currently sitting third in the league.
Manchester City sit second after their 2-1 win over Aston Villa, taking them onto 32 points.
A wondergoal from Bernardo Silva followed Ruben Dias’ long-range strike, with Ollie Watkins scoring a consolation for Villa.
Above everyone is Chelsea, who overcame a tough Watford challenge to maintain their spot at the top of the league on 33 points.
Goals for Mason Mount and Hakim Ziyech either side of Emmanuel Dennis’ equaliser were enough for the Blues.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s brace gives Manchester United victory
Manchester United came out on top in a five-goal thriller against Arsenal, winning 3-2 at Old Trafford.
Cristiano Ronaldo surpassed 800 career goals, netting twice after Bruno Fernandes’ initial equaliser.
Emile Smith Rowe and Martin Odegaard got the goals for the Gunners, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Red Devils.
A late Brighton equaliser against West Ham prevented the Hammers from solidifying their position in the top four.
The two sides drew 1-1, with Neal Maupay cancelling out Tomas Soucek’s early opener.
Elsewhere, Tottenham got back to winning ways when they beat Brentford 2-0, moving closer to the Champions League spots in the process.
A Sergi Canos own goal was added to by Heung-min Son, as Antonio Conte’s side condemned the Bees to a third defeat in their last five games.
Newcastle remain winless in the Premier League
At the bottom of the table, Newcastle are still waiting for their first win of the season after a 1-1 draw with 19th-placed side Norwich.
The Magpies went down to 10 men after Ciaran Clarke was sent off, but Callum Wilson put them into the lead before Teemu Pukki equalised late on.
The draw leaves Eddie Howe’s side bottom of the league on just seven points.
Leicester City twice came from behind to draw 2-2 with Southampton, with Jan Bednarek and Che Adams netting for the Saints while Jonny Evans and James Maddison scored for the Foxes.
There was a late winner for Leeds against Crystal Palace, with Raphinha slotting away a 94th minute penalty to seal all three points for Marcelo Bielsa’s team.
Finally, Wolves drew 0-0 with Burnley at Molineux, missing the chance to move within two points of the top four.
