The weather took its toll on football around the country this weekend, with a number of teams playing in difficult conditions.

Tottenham were due to play at Burnley, but their game was postponed due to too much snow on the pitch.

Jorginho’s error costs Chelsea costly against Manchester United

Away from the north, there was no snow during Chelsea and Manchester United’s 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Jadon Sancho capitalised on a Jorginho mistake to score his first Premier League goal, before the Italian made up for his errors by netting from the penalty spot 20 minutes later to ensure the Blues stayed top of the league.

Manchester City managed to hold on to second place after an impressive 2-1 win over West Ham.

Both Ilkay Gundogan and Fernandinho were on hand to score for City, which was followed by a superb volley from Manuel Lanzini for the Hammers.

Liverpool hit Southampton for four

Third-placed Liverpool kept the pace, thrashing Southampton 4-0 to close the gap between themselves and the top two.

A brace for Diogo Jota was followed by goals for Thiago and Virgil van Dijk as the reds cruised to victory.

Only goal difference is keeping West Ham in the top four, after Arsenal were victorious against Newcastle.

Second-half goals for Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli were enough for the Gunners who dominated the match, leaving the Magpies still waiting for their first win.

Leicester City beat Watford in a six-goal thriller

Elsewhere, Leicester City got back to winning ways when they comfortably beat Watford 4-2 at the King Power Stadium.

James Maddison and Jamie Vardy shone – with the latter netting a brace while Maddison scored the opener and Ademola Lookman finishing off the scoring.

Steven Gerrard continued his perfect start to life as Aston Villa manager, beating Crystal Palace 2-1 away from home.

Matt Targett and John McGinn were on target for the visitors, with Marc Guehi scoring a consolation for Palace.

In the bottom half, Brentford overcame a tough Everton challenge to get their first win in five games.

The only goal of the game was scored by Ivan Toney, who converted from the penalty spot.

Finally, the remaining two games both ended 0-0, with Wolves shutting out Norwich and Brighton failing to convert their chances against Leeds.
