Manchester City extended their lead at the top of the table, while Liverpool closed the gap on Manchester United as the latest round of Premier League fixtures provided plenty of entertainment.

City picked up a narrow win over bottom side Sheffield United, with Gabriel Jesus scoring the only goal of the game.

The win takes them three points ahead of their neighbours with a game-in-hand, while leaving the Blades stranded at the bottom of the league.

United dropped points again, drawing 0-0 at Arsenal in the biggest tie of the weekend.

Despite appearing to be a solid point, Liverpool capitalised when they cruised beat West Ham 3-1 to close the gap between them and their bitter rivals.

Mohamed Salah netted twice which was followed by a Georginio Wijnaldum strike to seal victory for the Reds.

Leicester also dropped points when they were humbled 3-1 at home by Leeds United.

The Foxes went ahead through Harvey Barnes, but the score was quickly levelled by Stuart Dallas just two minutes later.

Goals from Patrick Bamford and Jack Harrison secure victory in the end for Leeds, in what turned out to be a disappointing day for Leicester.

There was a first win for new Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel when the Blues beat Burnley 2-0.

Both full backs chipped in with goals, as Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso struck to see Tuchel’s side rise into seventh place.

A shock 1-0 win for Brighton against Tottenha boosted them further away from the relegation zone.

They now sit seven points clear of the bottom three, thanks to Leandro Trossard’s goal against Jose Mourinho’s side.

Fulham and West Brom drew 2-2 in their relegation ‘six-pointer’, leaving both some way off of safety.

Bobby Cordova-Reid and Ivan Cavaleiro netted for Scott Parker’s team while Kyle Bartley and Matheus Pereira were on the scoresheet for West Brom.

Elsewhere, Southampton lost 1-0 to Aston Villa after some questionable VAR decisions.

Ross Barkley scored the only goal of the game, but it appeared that the Saints were denied a clear penalty when Matty Cash handled the ball in the penalty area.

A brace from Callum Wilson saw Newcastle end their winless run with a 2-0 victory over Everton.

Finally, Crystal Palace avenged their recent FA Cup defeat by Wolves by beating them 1-0 on Saturday as Eberechi Eze netted his third of the season.
