Despite multiple clubs being hit by Covid-19 outbreaks over the last few days, five Premier League matches are still going ahead this weekend. TIBS News provides a preview as ever.

Tottenham face Liverpool in standout fixture

Liverpool travel to Tottenham, looking to keep up their superb festive form.

The Reds have lost just once all season and are coming into the match off the back of an impressive victory against Newcastle.

Their opponents on the weekend haven’t been in action since December 5, when they comfortably beat Norwich.

Manchester City travel to Newcastle United

Top of the league Manchester City are also in action, travelling to Newcastle on Sunday.

A win would see them hold on to top spot. City boss Pep Guardiola has been cleared to travel with his team after testing negative for Covid. He had to cancel his pre-match press conference earlier on Friday after returning an inconclusive result which necessitated a follow-up PCR test.

Chelsea face a trip to Wolves

Third placed Chelsea are also playing this weekend, travelling to Wolves and looking to bounce back from their recent run of poor results.

The Blues could only manage a draw against Everton during the week and lost to West Ham at the start of the month.

In the other two fixtures…

Elsewhere, Leeds United host Arsenal and Aston Villa welcome Burnley.

Leeds are five points above the relegation zone after beginning to pick up some form over the festive period but need to continue pushing forwards as their key players return from injury.

Villa have been superb since Steven Gerrard took over, winning four of the six games he has taken charge of.

They will look to continue this again at the weekend when they face Burnley, who have won just once all season.
