The busy festive period continues this weekend with more Premier League action, with the table changing every single game week. TIBS News previews the action.

League leaders Manchester City host Wolves

Manchester City are top of the table and will be hoping to keep up their superb domestic form against Wolves on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola’s side did lose in the week though, being beaten 2-1 by RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

Liverpool welcome the return of their prodigal son

Not far behind City are Liverpool, who sit second in the league and have been on fine form all season.

The Reds welcome home a club legend this weekend, with Steven Gerrard returning as Aston Villa manager when the two sides go head-to-head at Anfield.

Third in the division are Chelsea, who lost to West Ham last time out and could only draw against Zenit in the Champions League on Wednesday.

They face Leeds United this weekend, hoping to get back to winning ways and move back up the league.

West Ham make up the rest of the top four but with a big gap between themselves and the top three, their focus will be on moving away from the chasing pack below.

The Hammers can start to do this when they face Burnley, who have won just once all season.

Tottenham’s trip to Brighton cancelled

Tottenham sit fifth, but a Covid-19 outbreak in their squad means their match against Brighton is postponed.

A win for Manchester United against Norwich could see them move back into the top four, with the Red Devils currently in sixth.

Ralf Rangnick has only been at the club for a week, but has already picked up his first win in charge and will be looking to build on that this weekend.

Elsewhere, Arsenal play Southampton looking to find some form again after back-to-back losses against United and Everton.

Mikel Arteta’s side are seventh in the table, four points away from the Champions League spots.

Newcastle United looking to make it back-to-back victories

Nineteenth-placed Newcastle picked up their first win of the season last weekend and could make it two from two against Leicester City on Sunday.

The Foxes crashed out of the Europa League during the week, so will be there for the taking when they face a confident Newcastle side.

Everton ended their run of nine games without a win on Monday and face Crystal Palace this weekend.

The Eagles haven’t won in their last four games and sit six points above the bottom three.

Finally, Watford take on Brentford on Friday evening, looking to continue their strong start to life under new manager Claudio Ranieri.
