In another significant weekend in the Premier League season, there were yet more dramatic events taking place involving the divisions biggest sides.

Manchester United and Liverpool had their game postponed due to mass protests around and inside Old Trafford.
Thousands gathered to hit back against United’s owners – the Glazer family – and how they have been running the club.

Frustratingly for their rivals, Manchester City will have to wait at least another week until they can confirm a third league title under Pep Guardiola.

City beat Crystal Palace 2-0 thanks to goals from Sergio Aguero and Ferran Torres, meaning they just needed United to lose in order to claim yet another title.

Third-placed Leicester City missed the chance to move within two points of the Red Devils in second following their 1-1 draw to Southampton.

Saints went down to 10 men after Jannick Vestergaard was dismissed early on, but a James Ward-Prowse penalty followed by a Jonny Evans equaliser ensured the points were shared on the coast.

Chelsea took full advantage of those around them dropping points after they beat Fulham 2-0. Two strikes from Kai Havertz were enough the see the Blues through, giving them a three point lead in fourth.

Despite losing in disappointing fashion in the Carabao Cup final last week, Tottenham bounced back this weekend with a 4-0 victory over Sheffield United. Gareth Bale scored his first Premier League hat-trick since 2012, which was added to by Son Heung-min as the north London side rose to fifth.

They weren’t there for long though, as West Ham moved back into fifth after beating Burnley 2-1 away from home. Chris Wood netted again to open the scoring but a brace from Michail Antonio completed the comeback for the Hammers.

Elsewhere, Arsenal comfortably dispatched Newcastle on Sunday afternoon, winning 2-0. Goals from Mohamed Elneny and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang saw the Gunners to an easy three points.

Aston Villa also took a huge step back towards the top six, beating Everton 2-1 at Goodison Park. Ollie Watkins and Anwar El Ghazi netted for Villa, either side of a Dominic Calvert-Lewin strike for the Toffees.

There was also a big step towards safety for Brighton, who beat Leeds United 2-0. There were goals for Pascal Gross and Danny Welbeck as the Seagulls moved 10 points clear of the relegation zone.

West Brom look like their late hopes of a great escape might now be over, following their 1-1 draw with Wolves. The Midlands derby saw Fabio Silva put Nuno Espirito Santo’s side ahead before the Baggies equalised through Mbaye Diagne.
