The 2020/21 Premier League season has finally finished, with Manchester City being crowned champions and Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea qualifying for the Champions League.
City rounded off a fantastic campaign with a 5-0 win against Everton, in a fitting send off for legendary striker Sergio Aguero.
The Argentine netted twice from the bench – following goals from Kevin de Bruyne, Gabriel Jesus and Phil Foden – as he played his last league game at the Etihad.
A routine 2-1 win against Wolves was enough for United, who fielded a weakened side ahead of next week’s Europa League final.
A first senior goal for Anthony Elanga was followed by a Juan Mata penalty, as Nuno Espirito Santo fell to defeat in his final game as Wolves manager.
Leicester fail again
Spurs made a superb comeback to beat Leicester 4-2, meaning the Foxes dropped out of the top four and the North London side claimed a spot in the European Conference League.
Two Jamie Vardy penalties put the Foxes ahead, but goals from Harry Kane, a Gareth Bale brace and a Kasper Schmeichel own goal saw Spurs come from behind to win and finish seventh.
Chelsea and Liverpool capitalised on Leicester’s loss, confirming their places in the Champions League next season.
The Reds comfortably beat Crystal Palace 2-0, with Sadio Mane bagging a brace.
The Blues actually lost 2-1 to Aston Villa, with Bertrand Traore and Anwar El Ghazi scoring before Ben Chilwell’s consolation, but the end result didn’t matter following Leicester’s loss.
West Ham took the final Europa League spot after they cruised to a 3-0 victory against Southampton.
A double from Pablo Fornals was added too late in the game by Declan Rice as the Hammers confirmed a sixth place finish.
The strugglers
At the other end of the table, Sheffield United went down in style with a 1-0 win against Burnley, with David McGoldrick bagging his eighth goal of the season.
The already relegated West Brom and Fulham weren’t as fortunate, both losing their final games in the Premier League.
Scott Parker’s Fulham fell to a 2-0 defeat against Newcastle, with Joe Willock scoring in his seventh consecutive league game and Fabien Schar netting from the penalty spot.
The Baggies fared much worse, losing 3-1 to Leeds United.
Rodrigo, Kalvin Phillips and Patrick Bamford bagged for Marcelo Bielsa’s team, as they rounded off a special return to topflight football.
Finally, Arsenal finished off their poor campaign with a 2-0 win at Brighton, meaning they finished below Tottenham yet again.
Nicolas Pepe got both the goals for the Gunners, who now look to a huge summer of change at the club.
The season ends with Harry Kane as both the top scorer and best playmaker, Ederson winning the golden glove and Ruben Dias claiming the Football Writers’ Association player of the year award.
