Leicester City have been relegated from the Premier League after suffering a 1-0 home defeat by champions-elect Liverpool on Sunday.

The Foxes needed a win against the Reds to preserve their top-flight status for at least another week.

However, substitute Trent Alexander-Arnold came off the bench to score the winner for Arne Slot’s side and condemn their opponents to their fate.

As a result, Ruud van Nistelrooy’s men become the second team to be relegated to the Championship this term after Southampton’s relegation on April 4.

It’s been a turbulent season for the Foxes who sacked manager Steve Cooper in October after collecting just 10 points from their opening 12 matches.

Van Nistelrooy was appointed as his successor on November 29, but has fared worse – yielding just eight points from his 19 matches in charge of the King Power Stadium outfit.

The Dutchman now faces the unenviable task of trying to motivate his downbeat side for the rest of the season – beginning with a trip to Midlands rivals Wolves on Saturday.
