Following this week’s League Cup semi-finals, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City have made it to the final and have the opportunity to win the first major domestic trophy of the season.
Their victories mean they advance to the final which has been rearranged for 25th April in the hope that fans will be able to attend.
On Tuesday, Spurs beat first-time semi-finalists Brentford 2-0 thanks to goals from Moussa Sissoko and Son Heung-min.
Sissoko put his side ahead early in the game with a well-placed header finding the top corner.
Their lead was doubled towards the end of the second half, as Son raced through on goal and fired past David Raya.
The game was not without controversy though, as Ivan Toney had a goal disallowed by VAR after being millimetres offside.
Former Arsenal academy player Josh Dasilva was also sent off for an accidental tackle on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
The full back attempted a tricky skill move, turning away from the Dane before overstepping his foot straight into his opponent’s shin, albeit not deliberately.
Following the win, Spurs will now look to win their first trophy since 2008 when they face Manchester City in April.
City made it 12 games unbeaten following their win against rivals United, defeating their opponents 2-0 on Wednesday.
John Stones and Fernandinho netted in the second half to put them into their fourth League Cup final in a row, having won the previous three they have played in.
A fast start to the game saw a United goal ruled out for offside before City were dealt the same fate too. The visitors then had disallowed in the first half, while Kevin De Bruyne also hit the post.
But a dominant defensive performance from Pep Guardiola’s side ensured they advanced to the final, helped by fantastic displays from Stones and his partner Ruben Dias.
The final will take place on April 25 at Wembley Stadium – with in the hopes that fans will be able to return to witness the spectacle.
