Twitter/@Arsenal

There was heartbreak for Arsenal who crashed out of the Europa League, while Manchester United still reached the final despite losing on the night.

Arsenal’s miserable season hits a new low

The Gunners drew 0-0 with Villarreal on the night, with their tie finishing 2-1 on aggregate to the Spanish club.

Unai Emery got one over on his former employers, again putting in another masterclass in the Europa League.

The final will be the Spaniard’s fifth as a manager, having won the competition three consecutive times at Sevilla and losing once when he was Arsenal coach.

For Mikel Arteta and his players, they now have to look ahead to next season with the prospect of no European football as they currently sitting ninth in the Premier League.

Villarreal to face Manchester United in the final

Manchester United were beaten 3-2 by Roma, but a dominant first-leg showing was enough to see them into the final for the second time in five years.

Edin Dzeko, Bryan Cristante and Nicola Zalewski all netted for the Italian side, with Edison Cavani scoring a brace for United.

The tie finished 8-5 over the two legs, with Cavani being one of the standout performers in both games.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team have to be considered favourites to lift the trophy but will need to be at their best against one of the competition’s greatest in Emery.

When and where is the final?

The final will be played on the May 26 at the Stadion Energa Gdansk in Poland.
