Champions League semi-final preview: Chelsea take on Spanish giants Real Madrid while Manchester City face PSG in the other tie

The 2021 Champions League semi-finals are played this weekend, with both Manchester City and Chelsea travelling away from home against two elite European sides, PSG and Real Madrid.

Chelsea travel to 13-time winners Real Madrid

Chelsea visit Madrid on Tuesday night, hoping to reach their first UCL final since winning the competition in 2012.
They also beat Spanish opponents in the semi-finals that year, overcoming Barcelona across two legs.

So far the Blues have had to beat Atletico in the round of 16 and Porto in the quarter finals, with the likes of Mason Mount in particular performing very well.

This week’s semi-final will see a reunion with former Chelsea winger Eden Hazard, who is slowly making his way back into the Madrid squad following a muscle injury.

The Belgian has struggled since his big money move to Spain, but he will be looking to play his part on Tuesday in pushing Real towards a potential 14th Champions League.

Zinedine Zidane’s side have already beaten Atalanta and Liverpool in the knockout stages this season and will prove to be a formidable opponent in this semi-final tie.

Pep looking for his missing City trophy!

City go into their match on Wednesday off the back of yet another trophy under Pep Guardiola.

They are on a high after beating Tottenham in the Carabao Cup on Sunday and will need all the momentum they can get against PSG.

The Parisians are the team to beat at this stage in the competition, having already defeated Barcelona and Bayern Munich in previous rounds.

In contrast, City cruised past Borussia Monchengladbach in the round of 16 before just about making it through against Borussia Dortmund in the quarter finals.

Both semi-finals are set up to be huge spectacles, hopefully replicating some of the scenes witnessed at this stage of the tournament in recent years.
