All four English clubs were victorious in this week’s Champions League group stage games, with some much needed wins for teams who started the week in poor positions.

Manchester City produce a five-star display

Manchester City comfortably beat Club Brugge 5-1, moving to second in the process as they notched their second win of the group stages.

A Riyad Mahrez brace along with Joao Cancelo, Kyle Walked and a debut Cole Palmer goal sealed all three points for City.

The other fixture in Group A saw PSG beat RB Leipzig 3-2, with Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe running the show for the Parisians.

The Argentinian netted twice after Mbappe’s opener, with Andre Silva and Nordi Mukiele scoring for Leipzig.

Liverpool win at 10-man Atletico Madrid

In Group B, Liverpool won 3-2 against Atletico Madrid to ensure they maintained their unbeaten start to the season.

Mohamed Salah scored twice either side of a Naby Keita stunner, with Antoine Griezmann also getting a brace for the hosts before being sent off in the second half.

AC Milan lost 1-0 to Porto in the other match in the group, being outdone by a Luis Diaz strike.

Manchester United stage another European comeback

Manchester United yet again needed a second half comeback to win in Group F, beating Atalanta 3-2 at Old Trafford.

Mario Pasalic and Merih Demiral scored for the visitors to fire them into a first half lead, but goals after the break from Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo saw United move top of the group.

Europa League champions Villarreal thrashed BSC Young Boys 4-1 in the other Group F fixture.

European champions thump Swedish outfit

The last English side, Chelsea, cruised past Malmo with a 4-0 victory in Group H.

Two Jorginho penalties on top of goals from Andreas Christensen and Kai Havertz saw the Blues comfortably defeat their Swedish opponents.

Top of the group Juventus picked up their third win from as many games, beating Zenit St. Petersburg 1-0 thanks to a late Dejan Kulusevski header.

Elsewhere in Europe…

Elsewhere, Barcelona finally picked up a win when they beat Dinamo Kyiv 1-0 in Group E.

Veteran defender Gerard Pique scored the only goal of the game to keep Ronald Koeman’s side’s hopes of qualification for the knockout stages alive

There was no surprise in the other match in the group, with Bayern Munich easily beating Benfica 4-0.

Leroy Sane netted twice alongside a Robert Lewandowski strike and an Everton own goal.

In Group D, Sheriff Tiraspol still sit top despite being beaten 3-1 by Italian champions Inter Milan.

Goals from Edin Dzeko, Arturo Vidal and Stefan de Vrij saw the Moldovan side fall to defeat, but they are joint top with Real Madrid.

Madrid thrashed Shakhtar Donetsk 5-0, with Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo and Karim Benzema all scoring.

There was a shock result in Group C, as Ajax netted four against Borussia Dortmund in an emphatic 4-0 win.

A Marco Reus own goal opened the scoring and was followed by strikes from Daley Blind, Antony and the competitions top scorer Sebastien Haller.

The other Group C match saw Sporting Lisbon beat Besiktas 4-1, with Sebastian Coates netting twice on top of goals from Pablo Sarabia and Paulinho.

Finally, Red Bull Salzberg continued their fine start to the European campaign, beating Wolfsberg 3-1.
