The Champions League last-16 stage has ended, with eight sides having advanced to the quarter-finals including Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea.

Manchester City and Chelsea join Liverpool in the quarters

City played their second leg tie against Borussia Monchengladbach at a neutral venue on Tuesday, competing at the Puskas Arena in Hungary.

Despite not being at a familiar ground, Pep Guardiola’s side won 2-0 again on the night – with the tie ending 4-0 on aggregate.

Early goals from midfield duo Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan pretty much confirmed their spot in the next round, with Gladbach rarely threatening.

Fellow English club Chelsea also impressed, pulling off a good 2-0 win on Wednesday night over 10-man Atletico Madrid to end victorious 3-0 on aggregate.

A sweeping counter-attack saw Hakim Ziyech score his first goal at Stamford Bridge, which was added to in the dying minutes by Emerson moments after Stefan Savic was sent off for the visitors.

Holders Bayern Munich cruise past Lazio

Reigning champions Bayern Munich also comfortably beat Lazio 6-2 over the two legs, winning 2-1 in the second fixture.

Robert Lewandowski converted from the penalty spot, before Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting added a second in the 73rd minute.

A consolation from Marco Parolo wasn’t enough for Simone Inzaghi’s side, who were eliminated from the tournament.

Real Madrid impress against Atalanta

Finally, Real Madrid also advanced to the quarter-finals with a 4-1 aggregate win over Italian club Atalanta.

Three goals in the second leg for Madrid helped them overcome their opponents, with strikes from Karim Benzema, Sergio Ramos and Marco Asensio.

Colombian forward Luis Muriel did net a consolation for Atalanta, but it wasn’t enough as they failed to replicate last season and make the quarter finals.

The next set of fixtures will be played on April 6 and 7, and then April 13 and 14.
