The Carabao Cup final is played this Sunday between Tottenham and Manchester City as the first opportunity of the year for silverware finally arrives.

Both sides come into the final off the back of wins in the week, although the north London club will be at a huge disadvantage.

Jose Mourinho was sacked on Monday despite the final being less than a week away and replaced by Spurs youth coach and former player Ryan Mason.

Mason played for the club he now manages for eight years before leaving to join Hull City and then being forced to retire from a head injury.

He became the youngest manager in Premier League history at just 29-years-old and could be the youngest to ever win the Carabao Cup.

It would also be his side’s first trophy since winning the same tournament 13 years ago.

In getting to the final, Spurs have beaten Chelsea, Stoke and Brentford, netting six goals in the process.

They also got a free pass through the third round, with Leyton Orient forfeiting due to a Covid outbreak in the squad.

Manchester City the favourites

It’s a different story for Manchester City, who are looking to win their seventh trophy under Pep Guardiola.

They have already won three Carabao Cups, an FA Cup and two league titles and are close to yet another accolade under the Spaniard.

Key man Kevin De Bruyne could be out injured in what would be a huge blow for City, but an array of talented players can fill in for the Belgian.

Last season’s winners have to be considered favourites again, although anything can happen in football.

Guardiola’s team have already beaten Bournemouth, Burnley, thrashed Arsenal and overcame local rivals Manchester United to reach this stage of the competition.

The final will be played at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.
