Alexandre Lacazette has sealed his dream return to Lyon after agreeing a three-year deal with the Ligue 1 side.

The Frenchman started his career with Lyon, scoring 129 goals in 275 games during his first spell at the club.

The 31-year-old left Lyon for Arsenal in July 2017 but will now return to the club after five years in London.

Lyon finished eighth in Ligue 1 last season, meaning they failed to qualify for any European football for the 2022-23 campaign.

Alexandre Lacazette excited by the project at Lyon

Lacazette is excited by the project on offer at Lyon and the lack of European football didn’t discourage the striker from re-joining.

He said: ‘I want to thank the president, Vincent [Ponsot] and Bruno [Cheyrou], but above all for the welcome and the love you have shown me in recent weeks.

‘It was obvious to me. Despite the absence of European football, the project was more important than anything else.’

Lyon’s technical director Vincent Ponsot added: ‘We’ve been talking to him for a long time. This is an important moment but not the last. We want players invested in the club’s project.

‘When you have players trained at OL, it’s easier to have that be the case and Alex is a building block of this project.’
