The Premier League returned this week after the latest international break, with all of the big sides back in action and some huge results at both ends of the table. TIBS News reviews the action.

Manchester United thumped by Watford

The biggest shock of the weekend came when Manchester United faced Watford, with the Red Devils losing 4-1 to the 16th-placed side in a match that ultimately resulted in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking.

Joshua King, Ismaila Sarr, Joao Pedro and Emmanuel Denniss all netted for the Hornets, while Harry Maguire was sent off for United, the loss leaving them in eight place.

Chelsea remain top with win at Leicester

At the top of the league, Chelsea comfortably beat Leicester City 3-0, putting in a dominant display.

Goals from Antonio Rudiger, N’Golo Kante and Christian Pulisic were enough for the Blues, who were comfortable throughout and held on to first place in the process.

Second-placed Manchester City and third placed Liverpool managed to keep the pace, cruising to victory in their respective games.

City easily dispatched Everton 3-0 at the Etihad, with goals from Raheem Sterling, Rodri and Bernardo Silva.

Liverpool hit four past a resurgent Arsenal

Just down the road in Liverpool, the Reds were 4-0 winners against Arsenal after strikes from Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota, Mohamed Salah and Takumi Minamino.

The same can’t be said for West Ham, who remain in fourth but fell to just their third loss of the season when they played Wolves.

A Raul Jimenez goal was enough to consign the Hammers to defeat, as their opponents moved into sixth.

Antonio Conte wins his first Premier League game at Tottenham

Antonio Conte earned his first win as manager of Spurs when they beat Leeds United 2-1 on Sunday.

Despite going behind to a first-half finish by Daniel James, second-half strikes from Pierre Emile Hojbjerg, and Sergio Reguilon sealed all three points from Tottenham.

There were also first Premier League wins at their respective new clubs for Steven Gerrard and Dean Smith.

Gerrard oversaw a 2-0 win against Brighton in his first match in charge at Villa Park, with goals from Ollie Watkins and Tyrone Mings being the difference.

Smith then guided his Norwich side to a 2-1 win over Southampton, coming from behind to seal the Canaries second win of the season.

The Saints went ahead through Che Adams, but goals from Teemu Pukki and Grant Hanley saw the home side complete a superb comeback.

Newcastle remain bottom of the league and are still the only side without a win following their 3-3 draw with Brentford on Saturday – with goals from Jamal Lascelles, Joelinton and Allan Saint-Maximin being cancelled out by Bees players Ivan Toney, Rico Henry and then a Lascelles own goal.

Finally, an end-to-end game between Crystal Palace and Burnley also ended 3-3. Christian Benteke scored a brace for the visitors which was added to by a first Premier League goal for Marc Guehi, while Ben Mee, Chris Wood and Maxwel Cornet all netted for the Clarets.
