Who could be the successor to Sergio Aguero at Manchester City?

Sergio Aguero has locked down the Manchester City striker role since joining from Atletico Madrid back in 2011.

Fast forward ten years, Aguero is now City’s record scorer with 254 goals in an incredible 424 games and is undoubtedly one of the best strikers to grace the Premier League.

Unfortunately for Man City fans, the Argentinian forward is aging, aging like a fine wine of course, but aging nevertheless, which is possibly why City have decided to let him leave at the end of the season.

Aguero said back in 2014, “I won’t leave City until we win the Champions League”, and with the attacker turning 33 this year, the elusive trophy needs to be won this season for him to achieve his dream.

City must now look to strengthen in that area and find a someone to replace their departing record scorer.

With the money that Manchester City have, along with the pulling power of Pep Guardiola and the fact that they could do a quadruple this year; nearly any player in the world would jump at the chance to play for the Sky Blues.

Current back up to Aguero, Gabriel Jesus has always been impressive when coming off the bench or starting when Aguero is absent, but he’s never really spoken about when fans discuss who can fill the Argentine’s boots.

Guardiola could promote Jesus to his starting striker, but he could also play second fiddle to a big new signing…

POSSIBLE CANDIDATES …

Erling Braut-Haaland is one of the biggest names in world football, with his meteoric rise to the top of European football and will certainly be a signing City fans would love to see.

You’d expect Dortmund to ask for 100m plus, but in today’s market, that could be a steal for a man of Haaland’s quality and age. Alf Inge-Haaland, Erling’s father, played for Man City for three years, which could be a good factor in persuading him to come to the Etihad.

Harry Kane is one football’s most lethal finishers and has been for a number of years now. The Englishman is at the top of his game and could be an excellent forward for Man City with the number of chances they create.

The Tottenham striker could be tempted to leave North London to win some trophies after winning many personal accolades; but no trophies to show for his impressive 215 goals since making his debut for Tottenham in 2011.

Romelu Lukaku could make a surprise return to Manchester, as he’s already a proven goal scorer in English football, incredibly reaching 100 premier league goals at the age of 24. The Belgian didn’t depart on good terms with bitter rivals Manchester United, which could increase the chances of him joining the Sky Blues for a bit of revenge against his old club.

With the announcement on Monday that Aguero wasn’t going to renew his contract this year, we know there will be someone new arriving.

Luckily for City fans, Pep Guardiola will most likely bring in a big signing, could it be one of the players above? With City in the EFL Cup final, as well as smashing the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup, it could be a fitting way for the Argentine to leave on such a high note, winning trophies like he always has.
