As the 2020-21 Premier League season draws to a close, the PFA Player of the Year will be decided by the footballers, managers and the Professional Football Association (PFA).

The PFA player of the year has been awarded every year since the 1973-74. It is considered one of the best personal achievements you can win as it’s ‘the ultimate accolade’ to be voted by your fellow professionals according to former Chelsea captain John Terry.

This season’s player of the year award is a tough one to call. With many players standing out and putting their name forward with their performances each week.

Leaders Manchester City have a handful of players who could win it, and their talisman Kevin De Bruyne could win the trophy two years running.

Kevin De Bruyne

The Belgian has had an incredible season for the Sky Blues, putting on great displays each week. He is a big reason for City’s Premier League dominance this season. The midfielder is fundamental to Pep Guardiola having scored five goals and made 11 assists.

Harry Kane

The Spurs forward is enjoying an incredible season in a Tottenham side that isn’t up to his standards. Yet he still tops the goalscoring and assists chart this season with an incredible 21 goals and 13 assists. The Englishman will certainly have a lot of votes and is a likely winner of the PFA Player of the Year trophy for his incredible performances each week.

Ruben Dias

After impressing at Benfica, City signed Dias to be more defensively resilient. Not many fans would’ve called the impact he would have on the Sky Blues’ defence. The 23-year-old formed an immediate partnership with John Stones and has been incredible all season. He’s helped City to run away with this year’s Premier League. Pep Guardiola’s side have only conceded a miserly 23 goals all season – Dias has been a massive reason for that!

Bruno Fernandes

The Manchester United talisman has been instrumental to the Reds doing well this season. He’s picked up three player of the month awards so far. The midfielder has an incredible sixteen goals and thirteen assists, which certainly puts him in the running to win this award.

Nobody has contributed more goals and assists than Fernandes since his debut back in January 2020. Which highlights the level of the Portuguese international’s performances each week.

The award will be decided in May 2021 and it will be a tough one to call!
