Ahead of tonight’s opener of the UEFA EURO 2020 in Rome where Italy face Turkey all the nations have submitted their final squads.
Everyone listed their 26-man squad except for Spain as Spanish coach Luis Enrique who opted to only select 24 players stating: “We don’t want to take any more because we want everyone to have a chance of playing, and we know that only around 18 or 19 will actually play.”
The rules were to have submitted the squads by midnight on 1 June but there can be unlimited changes before the first game if a player suffers a serious injury or illness. This includes COVID-19 or ‘close contact’ to positive cases.
It should be noted that goalkeepers can be replaced during the competition if they get get injured (physical incapacity) even if the squad still has one or two keepers available.
A player who has been replaced in now allowed to rejoin the squad if they have been replaced.
