Euro 2020: England’s travel time should give the Three Lions a big boost

Twitter/@England

By the time the quarter-finals take place the lack of England’s travel time should certainly help the squad to focus on the action on the pitch.

If the Three Lions do manage get past Germany they will have to travel to Italy to play in Rome against either Sweden or the Ukraine.

Tuesday’s opponents Germany will have only had to travel 572 miles while Sweden are the second most travelled team having had to travel 6644 miles with only Switzerland having to travel more at a whopping 7245 miles.

Admittedly England do travel from their St Georges’ Park base while Italy can add their train trips from their base at Coverciano in Tuscany to Rome.

Wales have had to travel 5382 miles while big guns France and the Netherlands have only travelled just over a 1000 miles.

If England are to win the competition they will be able to do it with only leaving Wembley once to do it.

A number of fans online have complained about the structure of Euro 2020 especially during the current battle against Covid-19.

Miles travelled by those left in the competition (including the last-16)

Switzerland – 7245

Sweden – 6644

Wales – 5382

Czech Republic – 4995

Belgium – 4824

Ukraine – 3757

Portugal – 3696

Austria – 3495

Croatia – 1828

Spain – 1530

France – 1173

Holland – 1111

Italy – 898

Germany – 572

Denmark – 395

England – 0

There’s no doubt England’s travel time is an advantage but now we have to wait and see if it will help them finally win a European Championships.
