Football brings out a truly crazy streak in some people and inspires people to do things which under normal circumstances they themselves may think “what the hell am I doing!”
This is a list of world records which have been set by some crazy human beings who are all under the influence of a drug more powerful than most…football.
Through compiling my list I have come across a dog that can take off people’s socks at an astonishing rate, a Chinese man who can wear thousands of pairs of underpants and a pig which is incredibly good at diving.
After tearing my eyes away from the largest human duvet dominoes set, which I recommend if you need a laugh, I have assembled a top ten of the world’s craziest football records, enjoy!
10. David Boyne’s greatest success may be making it into this top ten, after he set the world record for the most football management rejection letters received. David has amassed 105 for a period spanning more than 16 years!
His failed applications include Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool at domestic level whilst on the international scene he has letters from England and Ireland, Boyne is still looking for that first break.
9. Onto a crazy Swede now who features more than once on our countdown. Tomas Lundman is the current holder of a few crazy records but his time of ten minutes and 4 sec controlling a football whilst lying down is in at nine.
He set the record at the Nordstan shopping mall in Gothenburg, but we wouldn’t recommend taking a ball to your local shopping centre and copying Tomas as you may find yourself being arrested.
8. Off to China now and the record for most people keeping a football in the air at the same time. 1,377 people turned out to set the record in 2011 in the Shandong Province.
The Chinese aren’t renowned for excellent keepy up skills but they are known for building great walls and maybe this record will help them change that perception.
7. It wouldn’t be a list of footballs craziest records without the Germans being involved and at number seven its Daniel Korte’s record for most rope skips whilst keeping the ball in the air for one minute.
Daniel managed an amazing 27 skips in sixty seconds en route to breaking the record at the first attempt in 2012. He clearly had not been skipping training.
6. Just outside the top five is Great Britain’s Daniel Cutting with his quite astounding record for most football touches with the lips in one minute.
He managed 153 when setting the record at Stadium MK in 2011, if you visit his website you can also see him doing some pretty tasty tricks with various presents dressed as Santa Claus. You can find him under the mistletoe kissing his football.
5. We have arrived at the top five! And we welcome back a familiar face, remember Tomas the crazy Swede? He’s back with the record for the longest time controlling a football with the head.
He managed to last a mind boggling 8 hr 32 mins and 3 sec before eventually taking his eye off the ball back in 2004. Unlike his previous record he chose not to do it in a shopping centre this time.
4. Just four left to go now with more UK talent appearing on the list. Billy Wingrove holds the record for most football neck catch passes in 30 minutes. Wingrove achieved a huge 661 catches to set the record back in 2009.
The record was set during a Guiness World Records Special in Beijing.
3. The final three are upon us! The others are crazy but not quite as crazy as our final three entries. Some of you may have seen this record holder on Sky Sports taking his mad skills around the world on his own TV show.
His name is Chris Kamara… alas no it is not Kammy for if it were he would be numero uno, but it is instead Daniel Magness. He holds the record for the most consecutive football touches with the shoulders, and anyone who’s tried to do one will know how hard it must have been for him to manage 340 back in 2010.
2. Magness has also winded up in the number two spot falling just short of being the best of the bunch with his record of longest marathon time of controlling a football.
He managed an outrageous time of 26 hours of keepy ups! Beating my personal best by 25 hours 59 minutes and 23 seconds. He set the time in Olympian City Hong Kong over the course of two days in 2010.
1. We have finally reached the number one spot! And this one I think you will agree is truly deserving of top spot on this list. His name is Iya Traore, he is immensely talented at juggling a football, even whilst walking backwards up a ladder.
And if that isn’t damn impressive I don’t know what is! He managed to climb 75 steps of a fire brigade ladder in Beijing. That is why Traore has finished at the top of our ten step ladder of the craziest football world records!
