Thierry Henry retires from football as ex-Arsenal and Barcelona star ends glittering career

After an incredible career spanning 20 years New York Red Bulls striker Thierry Henry has retired from football.

Henry left the MLS club last month creating rumours of a return to England – but the 1998 World Cup winner put those rumours to bed this morning when he announced his retirement.

The Frenchman finishes his career with a truck load of records and achievements the biggest arguably being the Arsenal all time top goal scorer record. The striker finished his time at Arsenal with a ridiculous 174 in 254 games. As well his goals Henry secured two premier league titles and three FA Cups during his time in London.

In 2007 Thierry joined European Giants Barcelona where he won two La Liga titles and the long awaited Champions League that had eluded him for so many years. In 2012 he Signed for New York Red Bulls and made a brief return to Arsenal scoring FA Cup against Leeds after coming on as substitute.

When asked if he had considered another stint at the Emirates, he told Sky Sports: “You kind of never leave Arsenal.”

But he added that another comeback might prove costly, referencing the ‘Rocky’ films starring Sylvester Stallone. “At one point, it will turn out to be a bad move,” he said. “We all love the first Rocky, but I’m not too sure about the last one.”

Many fans worldwide will be said to see the end of one of the games best forwards but Henry has given us plenty of great goals to remember him by. What his next move is has not be confirmed yet but it’s fair to say a coaching job at Arsenal would be a good bet.
