The demise of Dyer’s talents

Kieron Dyer has been released from Queens Park Rangers leaving his football profession up in the air after an injury plagued career.

The 34 year old made only eight appearances in his 18 month stint at the Hoops, scoring his first goal for the club against West Brom on Saturday in the FA Cup.

Harry Redknapp has stated that the midfielder has no future at the club and was released through a clause in his contract.

“He wasn’t in my plans and I think he’s got something to offer someone, so we wish him all the best.”

The Rs boss went on to say: “If he can stay clear of injuries I’m sure there’s clubs out there that will offer him the chance to play football.”

But it still remains to be seen if any club will risk signing such an injury prone player.

But where did it all go wrong for the man who has won more England caps than the likes of Robbie Fowler, Darren Anderton, Scott Parker and Michael Carrick?

Dyer started his career as hometown Ipswich Town before the Englishman’s talents were picked up by Premier League side Newcastle United and he signed for £6 million.

Not a cheap price in 1999 for a young, inexperienced winger.

But under manager Bobby Robson the attacking midfielders began to flourish and soon became a favourite at St. James Park.

He became known as one of the best English midfielders and was soon on the international scene.

But constant hamstring injuries hindered Dyer’s progress throughout the years and in 2005 his career took a turn for the worst.

A remarkable on pitch brawl with team mate Lee Bowyers was a moment to go down in history as both players were red carded against Aston Villa in the mid 2004/2005 season.

Not that the lengthy ban mattered for Dyer as he was out injured again, and still side-lined by the start of the next seasons campaign.

A host of players were brought in by manager of the time Graeme Souness and Dyer didn’t make another start for the Toon until seven months down the line.

The injury hit and overlooked international footballer finally made for escape from the North with a switch to West Ham in August 2007.

But the injuries followed Kieron Dyer. Nevertheless so did the money.

Producing just 30 games in almost four years for the Hammers, including a 17 month period of time out due to injury Dyer was released at the start of the 2010-2011 season.

He scored zero goals for the club and was sent out on loan to Ipswich in 2011 for a spell in which he was unable to find any form.

Despite the frustrating period for the footballer he still raked in around £60,000 a week through his time at West Ham, for practically doing nothing.

Extraordinarily Dyer was offered yet another chance to get into football signing when he signed for QPR in 2011. But we all know how that ends.

Now In a state of dejavu Kieron Dyer is once again without a club.

A brave attempt of being a Premiership footballer has come to an end and perhaps the career of a footballer.

To be frank Dyer’s biggest achievement has been his ability to stay at Premier League clubs for such a long time considering he hasn’t been at his best for over five years. Not to mention his injuries.
