England bowler Steve Finn reaches 100 Test wickets after dismissing Australia’s Mitchell Marsh in Ashes

Stumps

It may have been a frustrating day out in the field for England, but for Steven Finn it’ll be a landmark moment he won’t forget.

The tall quick seamer collected his 100th career Test wicket on Friday during Australia’s first innings on the second day of the final Ashes Test at The Oval.

Finn dismissed Australia batsman Mitchell Marsh for three to leave the tourists 343-5 during the 98th over.

The 26-year-old’s delivery proved too good for Marsh – who failed to deal with his extra bounce, nicking the ball to Ian Bell for a head-height catch at second slip.

The magic moment should have come four overs earlier, however, when Finn thought he had dismissed Australia captain-to-be Steve Smith after a catch by Jos Buttler.

However, following a review from the tourists the umpire’s decision was overturned as replays showed a clear no-ball was bowled with Finn’s foot several inches over the crease.
It was the second time in successive Tests that Finn was denied a wicket due to a no-ball after being guilty of doing the same thing against Peter Nevill at Trent Bridge.

Despite his misdemeanour against Smith, the Middlesex right-armer eventually got his man after lunch – taking his stumps away after he had hit a wonderful 143 from 252 balls.

Finn later dismissed Peter Siddle for one to see Australia all out for 481 in their first innings.

England lost eight wickets for 92 runs in an embarrassing collapse at The Oval, and ended day two 374 runs behind Australia.
