Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer will not face criminal charges related to the allegations of sexual assault made against him in 2021.

The 31-year-old will not be charged because the text messages sent to Bauer from the victim indicated she wanted to have rough sexual intercourse with him.

‘After a thorough review of all the available evidence, including the civil restraining order proceedings, witness statements and the physical evidence, the People are unable to prove the relevant charges beyond a reasonable doubt’ read a declination filed by the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office.

Despite this news, Major League Baseball (MLB) will continue its investigation of Bauer’s case, meaning the former CY Young winner will not be allowed to play until they conclude their investigation.

Bauer’s future in the MLB still looks uncertain. He is still under contract for the Dodgers and will be paid a hefty $32 million (£23.5m) for the 2022 season, with a player option contract clause for the 2023 season, which will see him earn the same amount.

The former Cincinnati Reds pitcher has been on paid leave since June 2021 after the women from South Carolina filed for a protective order against him.

Bauer has stated through representatives that everything that happened between them remained ‘wholly consensual.’
