Matt Harvey testifies that he used drugs as ex-New York Mets pitcher claims Eric Kay was Tyler Skeggs’ usual provider during trial

Former New York Mets pitcher Matt Harvey has admitted drug usage throughout his career in the Tyler Skaggs trial.

Harvey opened up about his and the late Skaggs’ drug use as a part of the trial involving former Los Angeles Angels employee Eric Kay. Kay is accused of providing the drugs that caused Skaggs’ death.

Kay is facing two felony charges and is accused of distributing oxycodone pills that contained fentanyl to the pitcher, who was found dead in his hotel room in July 2019.

Harvey was called as a witness and agreed to speak because he was given immunity after he was subpoenaed.

In his testimony, Harvey said he had provided Skaggs with six or seven Percocets in the clubhouse during the season but emphasised that Kay was Skaggs’ usual provider.

Harvey also acknowledged that he used cocaine throughout his major league career. Defense Attorney Michael Molfetta asked Harvey if he lied about his drug use in New York.

Harvey Replied: ‘Nobody really asked.’

Molfetta also asked Harvey if he wished he had told Skaggs to be careful.

‘Obviously, looking back, I wish I had.

‘Guys are constantly doing what they can to stay on the field. At the time, I thought I was being a good team-mate.’

The 32-year-old is now a free agent and admitted that releasing this information could harm the rest of his baseball career.
