Hall of Famer Derek Jeter is stepping down as Miami Marlins CEO.

The former Yankee took over as CEO in 2018 and has overseen significant improvements on and off the field.

Jeter was influential in the hiring of Kim Ng, MLB’s first-ever female general manager.

Jeter is arguably the most well known New York Yankee player of all time, tallying 3,465 hits with 260 home runs. He won five gold glove awards and made the AL All-star team 14 times.

In a statement released by the Marlins, Jeter said: ‘Today I am announcing that the Miami Marlins and I are officially ending our relationship. I will no longer serve as CEO nor as a shareholder in the club.

‘The organisation is stronger today than it was five years ago, and I am thankful and grateful to have been a part of this team.

‘The vision for the future of the franchise is different from the one I signed up to lead.

‘Now is the right time for me to step aside as the new season approaches.

‘My family and I would like to thank our incredible staff, Marlins fans, Marlins players and the greater Miami community for welcoming us with open arms.’
